Forward stocking locations, sometimes referred to as Forward Stock locations or FSL’s enable companies to manage the distribution of their inventory efficiently by holding stock at multiple regional locations rather than a central location.
FSL’s provide businesses with satellite warehouses reducing the time it takes them to deliver their products to customers as well as the time it takes their field service engineers to collect and return parts. These gains in productivity increase service levels and boost revenue and as a result are an increasingly popular part of companies supply chain strategy.

Typically called Forward Stocking Location, Forward Stock locations or FSL’s for short, these satellite warehouses significantly improve cost and service efficiencies by enabling businesses to increase their service responsiveness to customers.
The speed at which business can meet the demand for delivery or repair is a significant factor in their customer buying decision process, and FSL’s are one-way increase the speed at which demand can be met.
However, the investment and fixed costs to a business of setting up a network of Foward Stocking Locations can be restrictive so as a result, several specialist logistics providers offer access to space within their network of FSL’s providing the benefits at a fraction of the cost.
TVS SCS have a network of over 42 FSL across the UK and ROI and offer a full range of services including, stock control, filtration of parts, staging and pick and pack.
Forward stocking locations, which are also known as Forward Stock Locations or FSL’s enable businesses to hold their inventory in regional warehouses rather than a central one.
Specialist logistic providers manage FSL Networks and operate a commercial model that allows businesses to use part of the space, further minimising costs.
The main disadvantages of FSL’s are related to the introduction of any third party supplier into your supply chain. They include your loss of end to end quality control, lack of supplier ownership and potential margin stack if your chosen supplier, in turn, outsources any aspect of the service they are providing to you. The operation can become complicated very quickly, resulting in an increase in service failures and a lack of clarity as to who is at fault and how to resolve them.
The advantages of a successful partnership with an FSL supplier includes as reducing in the time it takes to deliver your products to customers as well as the time it takes your field service engineers to collect and return parts. These productivity gains represent a real competitive advantage, boosting productivity and increasing service levels.
Unlike any other Forward Stock Location service provider, TVS SCS owns and manages a unique range of national distribution options. These include 42 Forward Stock Locations, 250 PUDO’s and 10,000 Intelligent lockers and well as access to 3,000 same-day couriers, in-night, repair and field service engineers.
This approach ensures that business can increase the efficiency of their inventory management while avoiding costly third-party mark-ups and the lack of ‘ownership’ that can result in expensive delays or lost or damaged items when using separate third-party suppliers.
