A new Interim Trade Agreement between the European Union (EU) and Chile, which will enter into force on 1 February 2025<\/strong>, replacing the previous EU-Chile Association Agreement.<\/p>\n

This new agreement introduces a simpler process for establishing the preferential origin of goods. From now on, exporters and importers will be able to use self-certification by means of origin declarations instead of EUR.1 movement certificates or invoice declarations.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Here are the main changes that will apply from 1 February 2025:<\/p>\n

Movement certificates and invoice declarations<\/strong>: EUR.1 certificates and invoice declarations from the old agreement will no longer be accepted as proof of preferential origin. Claims of preferential origin will have to be based on a declaration of origin or on the importer’s knowledge, as appropriate.<\/p>\n

Goods in transit<\/strong>: Preferential origin declarations for products in transit, temporary storage, warehousing or in free zones on 1 February 2025 shall be based on the new origin declarations set out in the Interim Trade Agreement.<\/p>\n

REX number<\/strong>: The approved exporter numbers of the old agreement will be replaced by the REX (Register of Exporters) number. Origin declarations for EU products in consignments over 6,000 euros must include the REX number<\/strong>. EU exporters who need a REX number can apply for one by clicking on the following link:<\/p>\n

The REX number allows for self-certification of origin by registered exporters and has been used in the new EU preferential trade agreements since 2017.<\/p>\n
