Job Overview

The inventory planning department is responsible for demand forecasting and inventory planning for clients at Chorley, Preston and Banbury, with the goal of achieving service level and inventory targets, tailored to client requirements. This includes all aspects of the client’s planning, from initial stocking to general forecasting, supplier batch control, product changes, excess management and scrapping, etc. The department has a range of work from operational planning on DFP to internal consultancy, data analysis, inventory modelling and simulation, bid support, data science, analytics and R&D.
The department uses Msys.DFP for operational forecasting and planning based on previous demand history, Msys.BDA for reporting and Msys.ERP for most other work.
The Senior Inventory Planner role, in addition to operational planning, will be accountable for managing, training and leading a team of inventory planners. They will be responsible for delivery of the KPIs, and annual inventory plan for, the range of clients they manage, DFP setup and maintenance, leading client liaison and reporting, as well as assisting with the development of the strategic direction of the department.
The role also includes supporting delivery of the Inventory Planning department’s ongoing continuous improvement and project work, support for new business bids, through inventory and service level modelling, and support for take-on of new clients and internal consultancy.
The post would suit an experienced inventory planner with excellent knowledge of Planning systems and working with stakeholders to create effective inventory plans and stock holding levels leading to optimised product availability.

Job Responsibilities

Team Leadership, KPIs and Strategy
Responsible for all aspects of a client’s forecasting and planning, including:

  • Review and resolve forecasting and planning exceptions.
  • Revise the planning on items introduced, or changed by, supersessions.
  • Implement planning changes given information from the client such as events, campaigns, supplier constraints, service actions, etc.
  • Liaise with client on initial stocking and scrapping decisions.
  • Investigate reasons for holding specific inventory of items.
  • Represent the department at internal and external client review meetings.
  • Data analysis as required by the client.

Main Duties – Continuous Improvement

  • Understand a process that needs improvement, involving all stakeholders, and formulate proposals for improvement.
  • Manage continuous improvement projects through to implementation, involving all stakeholders, especially internal supply chain teams to drive effective supply chain solutions.
  • Drive inventory reduction initiatives across the range of clients managing, producing inventory reductions whilst maintaining service level.
  • Support implementation of new systems, by testing, analysis, recommending improvements, etc. This is particularly relevant as the department transitions to DFP.Net.
  • Writing of requirements for IT development projects.
  • Support the new business bidding process, for example by inventory modelling, advising on achievable KPIs, presentation of the company’s systems, etc.
  • Support implementation of msys.DFP for new clients, improvements to DFP, etc.

Main Duties – Team Leadership, KPIs and Strategy

  • Managing, training and leading a small team of inventory planners.
  • Ownership and responsibility for the department’s KPIs and annual inventory plan.
  • DFP setup and maintenance and take-on of new clients.
  • Leading client liaison and reporting.
  • Support the Inventory Planning Manager with development of the strategic direction of the department.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Experienced Inventory Planner in a parts aftermarket role.
  • Experience of the following sectors: automotive aftermarket, beverages dispense equipment, utilities equipment, defence equipment.
  • Highly experienced with working with inventory planning and enterprise resource planning software.
  • Client reporting and liaison.
