Job Description
Job Overview
The purpose of Export and Import Manager is to oversee and manage all aspects of the company’s international trade operations. They will ensure compliance with regulations, optimising supply chains, and facilitating the smooth movement of goods across borders.
Job Responsibilities
Team Leadership
- Lead and manage the exports/Imports team to ensure efficient and effective operations
- Provide guidance, training, and support to team members to enhance their performance and professional development
- Conduct regular team meetings to review performance, address issues, and plan for upcoming activities
Exports/Imports Operations Management
- Working role overseeing all aspects of the exports/Imports processes, ensuring compliance with international trade regulations and company policies.
- Manage the preparation and processing of export/Import documentation, including bills of lading, packing lists, certificates of origin, MSS data and commercial documentation
- Coordinate with internal departments and external partners to ensure smooth and timely shipment of goods.
- Monitor all 3rd party carrier KPI’s and delivery performance
Customer Service
- First escalation for all export and import teams
- Act as the primary point of contact for export/import-related customer inquiries and issues.
- Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction by providing prompt and accurate information and resolving any problems that arise.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients to support ongoing business and identify opportunities for growth.
Compliance and Risk Management
- Manage and run side projects for any new legislation requirements which have been released by customs – liaising with consultancy partners to drive through project change
- Ensure all exports/Imports activities comply with relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards.
- Review and change current processes which need to be realigned to capture new customs legislation changes
- Stay informed about changes in exports/Imports regulations and update team procedures as necessary.
- Identify and mitigate risks associated with the exports/Imports process, including customs delays, documentation errors, and transportation issues.
Performance Monitoring and Reporting
- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for the exports/Imports team and implement improvements as needed.
- Run and manage internal and external audits
- Prepare regular reports on exports/Imports activities, team performance, and customer feedback for senior management.
- Use data and feedback to drive continuous improvement in exports/Imports operations.
Process Improvement
- Identify opportunities to streamline and improve exports/Imports processes for greater efficiency and accuracy.
- Implement best practices and innovative solutions to enhance the team’s performance and service delivery.
- Work closely with other departments to ensure integrated and cohesive operations
- Lead new legislation projects to meet business needs – coordinating with all departments to ensure compliant practices are embedded into BAU
Problem Solving and Escalation
- Address and resolve complex exports/Imports issues, providing guidance and support to team members as needed.
- Serve as the escalation point for significant problems, ensuring timely and effective resolution.
- Liaise with customs authorities, freight forwarders, and other stakeholders to resolve issues and ensure compliance.
Qualifications and Skills
- Proven experience in an exports/Imports or international logistics role, preferably within supply chain solutions.
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Excellent understanding of exports/Imports regulations, documentation, and compliance requirements.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and relevant exports/Imports management software.
- Strong organisational and time management skills.
- Qualified within DG – IATA, IMDG & ADR
